There has been little media or public attention on new laws coming into effect in Victoria on 1 January 2023. The laws grant the regulators far more power to inspect and enforce the child safety standards in your sector. We know from history that changes like this are often adopted in other states if not already. We are going to see regulators working harder on enforcement and compliance not just education and support. We are here to help you get ready and avoid penalties and undertakings. Our clients report auditors viewing the deployed Oho solution very favourably for Standard 6 – people working with children and young people have current working with children checks or equivalent. Our clients also report a stronger culture of disclosure when Oho is in place. We’ve provided some information from the CCYP to help you navigate the changes. Please book in for a chat on the button below to see how we can help you get ready.
New laws start on 1 January 2023, including stronger penalties for organisations that do not comply with the Child Safe Standards.
Organisations should continue working to implement the 11 Standards that came into effect on 1 July 2022. The Commission’s guidance materials are available here.
If you have another regulator, you should also check their guidance material for information that is specific to your organisation. Click here for more information on other regulators.
